The New Jersey’s Northern Regional Medical Examiner Office in Newark has become synonymous with delayed autopsies and burials, putting an extra strain on already grieving families and busy funeral directors.

Still, for years, it has been the place where all Hudson County deaths requiring a medical examiner have been processed, whether it be unattended deaths, unnatural deaths or deaths under other special circumstances. But all that may finally change as the county builds momentum toward an agreement with the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office.
