The upcoming season of “American Idol” will be the last one for judge Katy Perry after seven seasons.

Host Jimmy Kimmel asked Perry, who was a guest on Monday night’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” how much longer she would be on “American Idol,” which the pop star responded that the new season will “probably” be her last. Perry announced her next move is to perform at Brazil’s “Rock in Rio” festival this fall in September, but after that, she was ready to move on from the show after seven years to pursue other things.

“I love ‘Idol’ so much, it’s connected me with the heart of America,” she said to Kimmel. “But I feel like I need to go out to feel that pulse of my own beat.”

Perry first joined “American Idol” as a judge alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie after it moved to ABC from Fox, and rebooted in 2018.

While no plans have been set on a new replacement yet, the pop star also revealed that Bryan and Ritchie had not been informed of the news yet, and confessed that “they’ll find out tonight” suggesting they would be informed of the news when the interview aired.

However, while Perry said traveling the world is one of the pursuits she wants to do, she hasn’t closed the door on “American Idol.”

“Maybe I’ll come back if they have me one day,” she said.

The 22nd season of “American Idol” premieres Sunday, February 18.
