Armed robber strikes at highway gas station in North Bergen

A gas station convenience store in North Bergen was robbed at gunpoint of more than $2,000 early Easter morning, authorities said.

A man entered the store at the Shell gas station on Tonnelle Avenue at 5:18 a.m. Sunday and acted as if he was going to purchase an item, North Bergen spokeswoman Sofia Quintanar said. After the assailant inquired about a phone charger, he brandished a firearm and told the clerks to get on the floor.

One of the clerks opened the register and the man stole more than $2,000 in cash and fled. The suspect was described as wearing a black hooded jacket, black facemask, black pants with stripes and white sneakers, Quintanar said.
