Celebrated rock drummer Josh Freese announced he will tour with A Perfect Circle in April, marking his return to the alt-metal band 13 years after his last performance with them.
The shows are part of frontman Maynard James Keenan’s 60th birthday celebration. Keenan will host a Sessanta event that includes his bands Puscifer and A Perfect Circle, as well as Primus, from April 2 to May 4. Freese performed on the first three by A Perfect Circle albums: “Mer De Noms,” “Thirteenth Step” and “Emotive.”
Freese announced the news via an Instagram post earlier this week.
“Happy to report that for the first time in 13 years I’ll be going out with A Perfect Circle on the upcoming ‘Sessanta’ tour,” Freese wrote in a caption. “Due to my schedule with the Foo Fighters, I’ll be having to jump off after the Hollywood Bowl on April 20.”
“Gunnar from Puscifer will be filling in on the remaining dates (maybe a little Tim Alexander too?) There’s a chance I’ll be able to show up to another gig or two after that if time allows but for now that’s the plan,” he continued. “A Perfect Circle has always been a very special band for me and I’m really looking forward to getting out and playing these songs again.”
Following the tour, Freese will hand over the baton to Puscifer’s Gunnar Olsen before returning to Foo Fighters. Last year, Freese was announced as the new drummer for Foo Fighters after the passing of Taylor Hawkins.
He has also worked with Nine Inch Nails, Guns N’ Roses, The Offspring and more.
A Perfect Circle, Puscifer and Primus will play Etess Arena at the Hard Rock casino in Atlantic City April 6 for the Sessanta tour.
