Unlike letter writer Andy Babij (“Don’t accept another fail on immigration reform”), I was really happy that the “compromise” immigration bill that resurrected some of former President Donald Trump’s disgraceful policies failed.

It included money to further extend the border wall, money to increase detention of undocumented migrants, and authorization to close the border to immigrants on any day that the numbers were too high, effectively restoring a “remain in Mexico” policy. This bill was not an attempt to fix the immigration system; it was an effort to discourage and deny entry to the country.
