If you tuned into the “American Idol” season premiere last Sunday, you will have noticed the show has teased that this week’s upcoming episode would feature the audition of a relative of a country music legend.

Emmy Russell, 25, is the relative who will be auditioning, and she is the granddaughter of the late country singer Loretta Lynn.

The episode featuring Russell is scheduled to air Feb. 25, 2024.

Even though this will be her “American Idol” debut, this is not Russell’s first time performing on a major stage.

According to one of her Instagram posts, she made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry last April to honor her grandmother on her birthday.

“I use to run from my family heritage and wanna make my own path,” she wrote, before adding that she was “not ashamed anymore” being connected to her grandmother’s legacy.

Russell also performed “Lay Me Down” with Lukas Nelson at her grandmother’s celebration of life in October 2022. You can view that performance below:

To see Russell honor her late grandmother, who passed in October 2022, you can tune in this weekend to see her audition for the series and hear what the judges think about her singing abilities.

“American Idol” airs on ABC on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. You can watch the series live as it airs on DIRECTV Stream (free trial) or Fubo (free trial).
