Look for life preservers as N.J. offshore wind hangs on | Editorial

After the collapse of plans for Ørsted’s massive offshore wind projects off New Jersey’s Atlantic coast last fall, the outlook for two South Jersey ports being designed or repurposed for the projects became cloudy.

At the time, boosters of the port projects — especially state lawmakers running for reelelction — tried to put lipstick on a potential pig by saying that the ports’ development in Paulsboro and Lower Always Creek Township didn’t depend on the scuttled wind farms proposed by Ørsted, the worldwide Danish energy giant.

Trust, but verify, as Ronald Reagan once said.
