N.J. man, 42, fatally struck by train in Bergen County

A 42-year-old man was struck and killed by a freight train Monday morning in Dumont in Bergen County, according to police.

The man, identified only as a borough resident, was hit by a CSX train about 6:30 a.m. between West Madison Avenue and New Milford Avenue, according to Dumont Police Chief Brian Joyce.

A spokesman for CSX did not immediately respond to a request to comment.

Local police, along with CSX and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, investigated the death, which did not appear suspicious, Joyce said.
