April will get off to a dreary start in New Jersey with below normal temperatures and periods of rain through Thursday.
Forecasters say we’ll see little sunshine until Friday, with 1 to 3 inches of rain falling in the state between Monday and Thursday.
As lousy as Monday looks, it’s probably the best of the next several days as light rain will taper off for a few hours in the mid-afternoon and temperatures will make it into the low 50s, the National Weather Service said.
“Rain appears likely to be focused across Philly metro, with points further north and east towards NYC struggling to get much today,” the weather service said in its morning forecast discussion, adding that overall Monday is “not a nice day.”
Rain returns Monday night with drizzly conditions in the evening and steadier rain overnight as temps fall into the 40s.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will bring more rounds of rain and high temperatures mainly in the 40s. Overnight lows will be in the upper 30s and low 40s. Normal early April temps range from the upper 30s to upper 50s.
Forecasters also can’t rule out thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon in South Jersey. There is also a slight possibility of hail.
Wednesday also looks messy — rainy with wind gusts of up to 35 mph with minor flooding possible. Some wet snow is also a possibility in far northwest areas of the state.
Rain is also in the forecast for Thursday, though there should also be stretches of conditions that are just cool and cloudy.
The sun finally returns on a breezy Friday ahead of what should be a dry weekend with somewhat warmer temperatures.
