N.J. weather: Storm could bring another 1 to 2 inches of rain this week

NJ weather - more rain coming in March

Coastal areas of New Jersey continue to experience minor flooding from the heavy rain that fell last weekend, combined with high astronomical tides. Forecasters say more rain is on the way this week.National Weather Service

As if we haven’t had enough rain this month, another storm system is setting its sights on New Jersey this week and could bring 1 to 2 inches of rain to areas already saturated by the recent storms.

Although light showers are in the forecast for Wednesday, the National Weather Service says a batch of steadier, heavier rain is likely Thursday.

Overall, forecasters are projecting a half-inch to 1 inch of rain in northwestern sections of New Jersey, along with eastern Pennsylvania, 1 to 1.5 inches of rain along the Interstate 95 corridor and nearly 2 inches of rain along the Jersey Shore.

“This will have implications on impacts due to flooding as soils remain very saturated from the weekend rain,” the weather service’s main forecast office in New Jersey said Tuesday morning. “This rain may lead to additional rises on creeks, streams, and rivers across the area.”

The weekend storm dumped as much as 3 to 4 inches of rain — close to a full month’s worth — on many areas of New Jersey during the morning and afternoon on Saturday, sparking numerous flood warnings and flood advisories as rivers and streams reached minor flood stage.

Many areas of the state continue to experience minor coastal flooding Tuesday from the heavy rain that fell last weekend, coupled with high tides caused by the full March moon.
