Despite being out of options, Connor Brogdon’s early-season troubles forced the Phillies’ hands and the relief pitcher was designated for assignment on Wednesday.
Ricardo Pinto was called up to take Brogdon’s place. The 30-year-old Pinto signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies in February and appeared in four games with the club in major league spring training as a non-roster invitee, striking out three hitters in 5 2/3 innings.
