A 39th consecutive Powerball drawing was held without a top prize winner on Monday night, pushing the jackpot for Wednesday’s lottery game to an estimated $1.09 billion with a cash option of $527.3 million.
Wednesday’s jackpot is potentially the 9th largest in U.S. lottery history.
No one has hit the Powerball jackpot since a lottery player in Michigan won the $842.4 million jackpot on New Year’s Day.
While no ticket holders across the country hit Monday’s $1.03 billion jackpot, a third-prize, $50,000 ticket was sold in New Jersey. It matched four numbers plus the Powerball. State lottery officials will disclose where it was bought later Tuesday.
In addition, six, second-prize, $1 million tickets were sold — one apiece in Florida, Minnesota, North Carolina and Virginia as well as two in Maryland.
Monday’s winning numbers were: 19, 24, 40, 42 and 56. The Powerball drawn was 23 with a Power Play of 2x.
In addition, no one hit the secondary, $10 million Double Play jackpot. Those winning numbers were: 12, 15, 28, 30 and 39. The Double Play number drawn was 12.
The odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot are 292,201,388 to 1. A player who buys a $2 ticket has about a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to match five numbers and win at least $1 million, while the odds are 913,129 to 1 to win a third prize of at least $50,000.
Powerball drawings are held each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot is worth $36 million, with a cash option of $17.1 million.
