Toddler seriously burned at N.J. daycare center. Worker charged, authorities say.

A worker at a North Jersey daycare center is facing criminal charges after a child suffered serious burns while under her care, officials said.

Ann Zheng, 24, who works at Dearest Angel Child Care in Palisades Park, was arrested on Monday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release.

A toddler at the daycare sustained serious burns to his body on Thursday, authorities said. An investigation by the Special Victims Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office then determined that Zheng assumed responsibility for the boy when the injury occurred, officials said.

Prosecutors did not specify how the injury happened or say what Zheng’s job title is.

She is being held in Bergen County Jail pending her first court appearance.

Dearest Angel Child Care couldn’t immediately be reached. Zheng’s current employment status with the facility was unclear.
